Spoken Herb is a celebration of progressive art and conducted a freestyle on music. The inaugural herb was held at Leona’s Café in White Plains, Quezon City on March 14, 2009. With live performances from Lourd de Veyra (Radioactive Sago Project), Down Earf, and sound designs of Tengal Drilon (Fete de la Wasak), the event became a successful jump-off point for its next incarnation. A year later, Spoken Herb’s second installment was held at Sarten Café in Antipolo City on July 24, 2010.
The past 2 Spoken Herb events served as a platform for artists to explore their artistic boundaries: to create, innovate and improvise. Spoken Herb 2 uprooted a jam session that included Louie Talan (Razorback), Reli de Vera (Sinosikat), Roxy Modesto (Radioactive Sago Project), Aya Yuson (Wdouji), Allen Umali (Sinosikat), Pasta Groove and Nikki Carbado (Joe Bataan Orchestra).Caliph8 and Pasta Groove applied ethnic elements in constructing live hip-hop beats. Ampon's Ramblingman did a comprehensive discussion on the art of 'Freestyling' or improvisational rap.
Simply put, Spoken Herb is an exchange of new ideas and concepts in music and art. More importantly, it’s for artists to showcase their talent and help educate our younger generation by exposing a diverse range of creativity in a relaxed, subdued atmosphere.

“It may be safe to assume that the next Spoken Herb festival will sport a very similar vibe to this last one. It will feature the arts, and will be fueled by music and an ethereal energy. It will definitely hold steadfast to its tenets of freeing the mind through art. It will be hyped but won’t be “jazz” in the downbeat. Rather, it will be fresh, real; the kind of jazz that hungry ears, hearts, and minds naturally yearn for.”
-Enrico Miguel Subido, FHM Magazine, July, 2010
“From showcasing poetry, hip-hop, live instrumentation, graffiti and open mic performers, Spoken Herb has since grown to include workshops, a live art exhibit and a book launch, and along with these developments, a bigger venue.”
